01 · Rings

Your ring size

A ring should slide over the knuckle with a little resistance and sit comfortably at the base of the finger: secure enough not to turn or slip, never tight enough to leave a mark.

Find your size

Measured with a strip of paper, as described below.

At home, in four steps

Measuring your finger

  1. I

    Cut a strip

Cut a thin strip of paper, or use non-stretch thread, about ten centimetres long.

  2. II

    Wrap it

Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger you are buying for. It should feel like a ring would, and still slide over your knuckle.

  3. III

    Mark it

With a fine pen, mark exactly where the end of the strip meets the paper beneath it.

  4. IV

    Measure it

Lay the strip flat on a ruler and read the length to your mark in millimetres. Enter it in the size finder above for your Indian, US and UK size.

One

Measure a ring you own

The most accurate way, if you have a ring that fits the finger you are buying for.

  1. Lay the ring flat on a ruler.
  2. Measure straight across the inside, at the widest point, in millimetres.
  3. Enter it above under "Across a ring".

Two

Measure your finger

With a strip of paper or non-stretch thread, about ten centimetres long.

  1. Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger, and check it still slides over the knuckle.
  2. Mark where it overlaps.
  3. Lay it flat on a ruler and measure to the mark in millimetres. Enter it above under "Around the finger".

Measure warm

Fingers are smallest when cold and first thing in the morning. Measure later in the day, at room temperature, and on more than one day if you can.

Mind the knuckle

If your knuckle is larger than the base of your finger, measure both and choose a size between, so the ring passes over the joint but does not spin.

Wide bands fit tighter

A band wider than about 4 mm sits more snugly than a slim one. For wide bands and stacks, go up half to one size.

The right hand, the right finger

Your dominant hand is usually slightly larger. Measure the exact finger, on the exact hand, where the ring will be worn.

02 · Bangles

Your bangle size

A rigid bangle has to pass over the widest part of your hand, so that is what you measure, not your wrist. Bangle sizes in India are given in inches and annas, sixteenths of an inch: 2-4 means two and four-sixteenths inches across.

  1. I

    Close your hand

Bring your thumb in towards your little finger, as if slipping a bangle on.

  2. II

    Measure the widest point

Wrap a soft tape around the hand across the knuckles, where it is widest, and note the length.

  3. III

Or measure a bangle you own

Measure straight across the inside, edge to edge. That inside diameter is your size in the chart.

From a hand measurement, divide by 3.14 to find the inside diameter you need, then choose the nearest size up.

03 · Bracelets

Your bracelet length

Measure your wrist just above the wrist bone, where a bracelet sits, then add a little room for the fit you prefer.

Most women's bracelets are 16.5 to 18 cm; most men's, 19 to 20.5 cm.

04 · Necklaces

Where it will fall

Necklace length is a matter of taste rather than fit. Choose a length below to see where it falls. On you it will vary a little with your height and build.

Check it with string

Drape a piece of string around your neck at the length you are considering and look in the mirror. It is the simplest way to see a length on yourself.

Allow for the pendant

A pendant hangs below the chain, so it will sit a little lower than the length alone suggests.

Your neckline

Shorter lengths suit open and V-necklines; longer ones sit beautifully over high necks and knits.

Questions

What if I am between two ring sizes?

Choose the larger. Fingers swell in warm weather and through the day, and a slightly loose ring is more comfortable than a tight one. For wide bands, go up half to one size.

Can I measure with a ring sizer app or a printed sizer?

They can be helpful, but screen and printer scaling make them less reliable than measuring a ring you own. For an important piece, we recommend a fitting.

Can a ring be resized later?

Complimentary resizing in the first year. Many rings can be resized by a size or two. Eternity bands set with stones all the way around, and some intricate designs, cannot. Please ask us before ordering if you are unsure of the size.

I am buying a surprise ring. How do I find the size?

Borrow a ring they already wear on the right finger and measure it, or draw around the inside of it on paper and send us a photograph with a ruler beside it. We are happy to help.

Are Indian ring sizes the same as US sizes?

No. Indian sizes run from about 1 to 36, and each step is 1 mm of circumference. Use the chart above to convert.

How should a bangle fit?

It should pass over your hand with a little effort and move freely on the wrist without sliding far down the hand.
